The Practice
The 5Rhythms Wave is a physical and spiritual
dance practice which promotes a fullness of life and
freedom in movement. At the heart of this comprehensive
body of work is the physical experience of your body
in motion. 5Rhythms classes and workshops typically
include moving meditation sessions in which students
dance the five rhythms of flowing, staccato, chaos,
lyrical and stillness. The rhythms together form the
wave. While dancing the wave we practice allowing our
bodies to move freely as we explore the circular and
grounding rhythm of flowing, the shapes of staccato
and the release in chaos. We discover curiosity and
freedom in lyrical and reverence in the spirit of stillness.
Roots of the Work
5Rhythms teachers have lived their own deep
and meaningful dance practice for years before being
extensively trained by Gabrielle Roth and her Moving
Center School faculty. Gabrielle Roth formed this body of work over thirty
years ago out of the flames of her passion for music,
theater and dance. Currently there are 5Rhythms teachers
offering classes and workshops in cities, dance studios
and retreat centers all across the world.
Spiritual Practice
The 5Rhythms are a physical, spiritual dance
practice that offer a lifetime of discovery. Always beginning with the body in motion, we engage
the work of freeing the body, opening the heart and
focusing the mind. In this practice we connect to our
natural state of being; a fluid body in motion. Through
this dance we reclaim our own instinctual nature, and
practice being fully alive and present human beings.
Community
Again and again, on the dance floor, we practice
being fully ourselves. 5Rhythms dance floors are safe
and supportive places for people to experience and study
the 5Rhythms dance practice. This dance practice is
for, and currently populated by, seasoned seekers, innocent
newcomers, young bodies, old bodies, shy bodies, bold
bodies, open hearts, broken hearts and all the different
parts that together form this world of humanity.

If you are wanting to go a little further into your dance, wanting to take the time to make space for the work of the heart, or simply wanting more, then please consider joining us for the Heartbeat Lab. We will be diving into the Heartbeat map of the 5Rhythms exploring emotional fluidity.
Our motion through life is guided by our emotions, and our emotions shape the world around us. We do have the power to change our world and the key is coming into deep, intimate and open relationship with our own emotions. "Heartbeat" is a gateway to this relationship.
"Heartbeat" is the 5Rhythms map of freeing the heart and achieving emotional fluidity. In "Heartbeat" we explore our emotions as energy, as power, as part of what it is to be human. By working with the five essential emotions of fear, anger, sadness, joy and compassion we come into deeper contact with our own heart, strengthen our emotional vocabulary and free our whole being to dis-lodge, express and release the emotions that have shaped us.
As we embrace the full range of our emotions we free ourselves to move and be moved, to feel and be felt, to love and be loved.

“Living Fully Loving Deeply” is an invitation on your journey as a spiritual being having a human experience. An invitation to experience all of what it is to be human, in all its joy and pain. That is the grand experiment of life.
In this experiment there is a pull, a call, that guides us into a deeper richer experience of what it is to be living. This pull comes from the heart, through the heart, and pulls us into our own capacity to experience love. Of all the experiences we are here to have, love is the grandest.
Love can be experienced when we let all the joy and pain of our humanity move fluidly through us. This emotional fluidity is possible when the heart is free to open and close, to move and be moved, to feel and be felt.
“Living Fully Loving Deeply” is the journey of freeing the heart. Freeing the heart through the dance, through the maps of the 5Rhythms®, together, in tribe, through the container of an on-going group. “Living Fully Loving Deeply” is an invitation to you, a call to the grand experiment of life.

We have one life in this body and yet we spend most of our time dis-connected from the profound sense of well-being that comes from fully occupying our bodies. We race through our lives, thinking first, feeling second and occupying our bodies a distant third. To make things worse, we have learned to relate to things from this state of being dis-connected. And this causes needless suffering. And yet right under our nose is a pathway of connection. A pathway of the body that connects us to a sense of knowing who and what we are, a pathway that guides us to ourselves and to everything that we find meaningful and important ~ Body Breath and Beat
The work of "Body Breath and Beat" is to cultivate our relationship to our own bodies in motion. We dance ourselves into our bodies, and from this place, life opens up.

We shy away from occupying the edge because we think we will lose ourselves there, when in fact the edge is where we find our most vibrant self.
"Dancing on the Edge" is about inhabiting our bodies fully, and taking our motion all the way to its edge, past what we know into the territory of what is possible.
Out on the edge we both discover and define our most creative and fluid self. 'Dancing on the Edge' is about moving towards an awakened state of being totally present in this moment.
